Moto G crowned as bestselling Motorola handset in history
Motorola has announced the Moto G is the company’s highest-selling smartphone ever.

The £129 smartphone was launched in November 2013 to the critical acclaim of both the media and consumers, so much so that Motorola has crowned the budget blower its best phone.
“The Moto G has been the most successful, highest-selling smartphone in Motorola’s history”, said Motorola Senior VP, Rick Osterloh, during Motorola’s MWC 2014 event.
Sadly, Motorola didn’t elaborate on this claim with any sales figures, which would have made the claim even more noteworthy.
Motorola even went on to say that despite the Moto Gs price, the company still makes a profit on every unit sold. This profit margin may even increased after the Lenovo acquisition of Motorola.
The Moto G was awarded for coming rammed with decent hardware and a near stock Android experience that practically gave you an affordable Nexus 5.
Motorola’s handset and the Nokia Lumia 520, which outsold all Android phones in the UK in December, prove that the combination of decent specs and the right price tag make a handset, even if it isn’t the flagship.
The Moto G features a 4.5-inch 720p HD display running on a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM.
It comes with a minimum of 8GB of internal storage, but lacks microSD card storage.
The Moto G is also now equipped with Android 4.4 KitKat and features a UI very close to stock Android.
In the rear is an 5-megapixl camera with autofocus and LED flash, coupled with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
The all-plastic phone is available in a range of colours and is powered by a 2070mAh battery.
It comes with 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity, but misses out on 4G LTE.

HTC Desire 8 leaks as 5 5 inch mid range handset
Just days after HTC stated it needed to put more effort into lower-end devices a new mid-range handset has leaked under the moniker of the HTC Desire 8.

Expected to be a more affordable sibling to the HTC One and inbound HTC One 2, the newly surfaced HTC Desire 8 leaks have claimed that the mid-range handset will sport a 5.5-inch display, although screen quality and resolution levels are still unclear.
Caught on camera, details of the handset’s upcoming specs sheet have appeared alongside a rather official looking HTC Desire 8 picture.
Seemingly set to be a svelte, plastic bodied handset, the HTC Desire 8 will reportedly host stereo speakers either end of the expansive, phablet-esque display.
According to the leaks, the handset will also benefit from a strong camera collection with a 13-megapixel primary rear-mounted camera tipped to line up alongside a 5-megapixel forward-mounted snapper.
Although the phone has been shown off with a standard white finish , it has been claimed that, like the Nokia Lumia 1020, the Desire 8 will launch in a range of hues, with orange, cyan, yellow and red offerings all expected to make an appearance.
Having surfaced via Chinese site MyDrivers, it has been suggested that the HTC Desire 8 will be officially unveiled on March 18. With the HTC One 2 also expected to launch in mid-March, this teased date could well have bigger announcements in store.

Samsung Galaxy S5 benchmark leaks point to two handset variations
A new round of Samsung Galaxy S5 benchmarks have leaked, with latest reports suggesting two variations of the flagship handset will be made available.

With the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date widely expected to be held on February 24, new leaks have hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S4 follow-on will launch in both quad-core, 2K display and octa-core Full HD display hosting variations.
While a separate Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is expected to launch in the future, it is believed the leaked flagship variations are set to be more akin to Apple’s iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C offerings than full blown spinoffs.
According to leaked AnTuTu benchmark results, surfaced via PhoneArena, {pullquote}the two Samsung Galaxy S5 variations will be known as the Samsung SM-G900R4 and Samsung SM-G900H{/p[ullquote}. Both will feature 16-megapixel rear-mounted cameras alongside secondary, 2-megapixel snappers up front and Google’s latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS.
That’s where the similarities end, however. The leaks have claimed that the Samsung SM-G900R4 will play host to a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor alongside 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Interestingly, this version of the HTC One rival will reportedly run a QHD display with a stunning 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.
On the other side, the Samsung SM-G900H variation will see a 1.5GHz octa-core Exynos CPU line up alongside 2GB of RAM and a more traditional 1920 x 1080p Full HD display. The lower screen resolution S5 will reportedly add 2GB of RAM and just 16GB of integrated storage.
Although Samsung has yet to officially confirm the existence of such a device, the Korean manufacturer last week teased the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 launch, issuing invites to a February 24 press event dubbed “Unpacked 5.”

With the Google Nexus 5 release date confirmed for tomorrow, November 1, high street chain Carphone Warehouse has become the first to announce its intentions to stock the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5S rival on both pay monthly and SIM-free deals.

While the Google Nexus 5 price has been set at £295 for the SIM-free 16GB option, Carphone Warehouse has announced that it will also offer the handset on a range of pay monthly 3G and 4G tariffs.
What’s more, in an attempt to sugar coat its deals, the retailer has confirmed that the first 1,000 customers to snap up a Nexus 5 on a 4G contract will be rewarded with a free, first-generation, 16GB Google Nexus 7 tablet worth £139.
Partnering the phone with the O2 network, the first Google Nexus 5 deals to be offered by Carphone Warehouse include a £32 per month 3G deal that includes unlimited texts, unlimited calls and a 1GB monthly data allowance. Those after 4G speeds can plump £37 per month to jump to a larger and faster 2GB data allowance.
Google Nexus 5 Specs
An impressive looking handset on paper, the Google Nexus 5 specs sheet sees a range of high-end components make the cut. Manufactured by LG, the Nexus 5 boasts the same 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor as the LG G2, pairing the CPU with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 330 graphics.

Samsung Galaxy S5 teaser trailer points to waterproof handset
The new Samsung Unpacked 5 teaser trailer points to the Samsung Galaxy S5 being a waterproof handset.

Not only does the teaser trailer officially confirm that the Unpacked 5 event will be for the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch, but it also confirms the device will be waterproof.
Although the Unpacked 5 teaser trailer is only just over 30-seconds long, it gives us some official teasers as to what features the Galaxy S5 will bring.
SAmsung Galaxy S5 teaser trailer
The trailer flashes through some words like “together”, “explorer”, “curiosity”, “peace” and “dad” – all with a little superscript number 5 – before pausing on the word “wet”.
Combine this rather telling feature teaser with the previous Galaxy S5 camera specs leak and you have pretty concrete evidence that the device will be waterproof.
We believe Samsung may go the way of Sony and make the Galaxy S5 waterproof and dustproof, mostly because of the focus on the word “outdoor”.
There’s also particular focus on the word “speed”, which hints to the fact the Galaxy S5 is heavily rumoured to be home to the new Samsung Exynos Infinity CPU with a 64-bit architecture.
Samsung also seems to be a specific focus on “life”, which occupies the majority of the final portion of the Unpacked 5 trailer.
“Find out more on Monday 24 February at the Samsung Unpacked event in Barcelona”, adds Samsung’s YouTube blurb.
Other rumoured specs for the Samsung Galaxy S5 include a 5.25-inch full HD resolution display and a 16-megapixel rear camera.
Samsung’s Unpacked 5 event is scheduled for 6pm BST on Monday February 24.
