Nokia Normandy spotted on retailer website without Nokia X name

The Nokia Normandy has been listed on a huge Vietnamese retail site, without the hot tipped Nokia X name.

The Normandy listing on The Gioididong.com, the largest Vietnamese retailer, shows the same Lumia-esque smartphone as seen in the pictures leaked online as late.

The heavily rumoured first Nokia Android device is supposed to be called the Nokia X, so it’s bizarre that the Vietnamese listing would use the device’s codename rather than the official launch title.

However, the listing provides further evidence that the Nokia Android phone is due to launch imminently – potentially as soon as MWC 2014 in February.

According to the retail listing, the Nokia X Android phone will come with a 4-inch 480 x 854p resolution and run on a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon 200 processor with 512MB of RAM.

It will also reportedly come with 4GB of internal storage with a microSD slot supporting cards up to 32GB.

Dual-SIM is also offered, although we imagine it won’t come as a feature for UK consumers.

The listing also suggests it’ll offer a 5-megapixel rear camera and Bluetooth connectivity.

What’s most important about the Nokia Normandy listing is the reference to Google services within the somewhat limited specs sheet.

Google Play, Google Search, Google Now, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Calendar support are all featured in the Nokia Normandy listing, suggesting the device is definitely an Android device.

The specs also suggest the Nokia X will be compatible with the Android 4.4 KitKat OS, which has been specially designed to run on smartphone with RAM offerings as low as 512MB.

Although the specs don’t really scream wow factor, we assume it will be a more affordable Android option come launch.

The Vietnamese listing also doesn’t mention a release date or an indication of price, but hopefully we’ll learn more if and when it is unveiled at MWC.

Nokia boss teases major launch in 2013 following Lumia 1020 reveal

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop followed up the launch of the 41-megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020 handset by promising another big release before the year is out.

The under-fire bossman said the next "major launch" is coming "later this year" during a Q&A session at the New York event on Thursday afternoon.

Elops comments are sure to spark more speculation that the oft-anticipated Nokia Lumia tablet running Windows 8 or Windows RT might be on the way before we draw a line under 2013.

Earlier this year, Nokia was granted a patent with the US Patent & Trademark Office for a tablet device that looked very similar to the Microsoft surface.

The proposed device had a keyboard cover, just like the Surface devices, that could be used as a kickstand. However the patent was filed back in October 2011, so plans may have moved on since then.

Back in February, we got a brief glimpse of what looked like a Nokia Lumia tablet when it appeared on a screen at a Lumia 620 launch event in Pakistan, of all places.

If Elop wasnt referring to a tablet, its difficult to know what Nokia could have on the agenda.

The company has launched three flagship handsets in very quick succession with the Lumia 925, Lumia 928 and todays Lumia 1020 setting Nokia up very well for the year.

Well keep our nose to the ground for more leaks. If the recent past is anything to go by, whatever Nokia has up its sleeve shouldnt be too elusive.

Nokia X Android phone snapped once again ahead of MWC unveiling

The Nokia X Android phone looks all but certain to make an appearance at MWC 2014 next month, and now the handset has been caught on camera once again, this time with a vibrant orange body.

Suggesting that Nokia will continue its Windows Phone, Lumia-branded trend of launching handsets in a variety of colours, the orange Nokia X images follow countless shots of the mooted handset sporting a bright red outer shell.

According to latest reports, the Nokia X will be made available in six different hues when formally unveiled as part of the Finnish manufacturer’s MWC 2014 press conference on the morning of February 24.

With Nokia having yet to make any formal indication of plans to launch its first Android powered handset, it is suggested that the latest leaks are taken with a pinch of salt.

Having leaked courtesy of NowWhereElse, the French blog has claimed that the Nokia X specs sheet will see the handset line up as a lower mid-range handset with a modest array of innards unlikely to trouble the upcoming likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5.

According to the reports, the Nokia X Android phone will line up powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a measly 512MB of RAM.

With a 4-inch, 800 x 480 pixel WVGA display tipped for inclusion, the Nokia X will seeminly add a 5-megapixel rear-mounted camera to the fray alongside 4GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD, and a 1500mAh Lithium-Ion battery.

Nokia Lumia 1520 press shots leak ahead of late 2013 release

Claimed Nokia Lumia 1520 press images have leaked ahead of the oversized phone’s expected arrival later this year.

The latest in a recent flurry of premature outings for the phablet sized Nokia handset, the newly emerged Lumia 1520 press images claim to show the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rival in all of its professionally shot glory.

Hitting the web courtesy of the Twitter based repeated tech tipster @evleaks, the new Nokia Lumia 1520 picture has landed alongside the simple teaser: “Nokia Lumia 1520, 2013.”

Showing a familiar site, the Nokia Lumia 1520 pictures point to the handset being an upscaled remake of many of the existing Lumia handsets, taking design hints from the likes of the Nokia Lumia 920 in sporting a vibrantly hued yellow polycarbonate body.

Although concrete Nokia Lumia 1520 specs have yet to emerge, it is widely believed that the phone will run a 6-inch 1080p Full HD. This added on screen real estate will let future Lumia 1520 owners to fill the device’s homescreen with a bevy of app shortcuts and live tiles.

With the leaked Nokia Lumia 1520 images showing that the handset will not sport the same impressive PureView snapper as the Nokia Lumia 1020, it is expected that the device will instead share camera optics with the metal clad Nokia Lumia 925.

Although yet to be confirmed, it is believed that the Nokia Lumia 1520 will be officially unveiled alongside the repeatedly leaked Nokia Lumia tablet at a dedicated New York based launch event to be held in either late September or early October.

Earlier this week it was announced that the mobile arm of Nokia has been sold to Microsoft, with the £4.6 billion deal to be completed in early 2014.

Its a bold step into the future - a win-win for employees, shareholders and consumers of both companies,” Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s outgoing CEO stated in an announcement confirming the buyout. He added: “Bringing these great teams together will accelerate Microsofts share and profits in phones, and strengthen the overall opportunities for both Microsoft and our partners across our entire family of devices and services."

Nokia Lumia 2020 tipped to be 8 3 inch Windows tablet

Following the recent Nokia Lumia 2520 release, the Finnish phone manufacturer is rumoured to be working on a second tablet offering, as the 8.3-inch Nokia Lumia 2020 is teased.

Far from the first time an 8-inch Nokia tablet has been teased, the latest reports have surfaced following the emergence of a new product name, the Nokia RX-115, being spotted on internal product documents.

Although little is currently know about the Nokia branded iPad mini and Google Nexus 7 rival, it has been suggested that the upcoming Nokia tablet will run an 8.3-inch IPS display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel Full HD resolution.

Like the 10.1-inch Nokia Lumia 2520 before it, the RX-115, widely expected to hit retailers under the moniker of the Nokia Lumia 2020, will reportedly be powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 RT operating system.

While a Nokia Lumia 2020 release date is still unknown, it is expected that the LG G Pad competitor will make its first formal appearance alongside a selection of new Lumia handsets during the company’s MWC 2014 conference in February.

Originally unveiled back at Nokia World in October, the Nokia Lumia 2520 was formally launched in the UK last week. Available in four colours, red, black, white and blue, the Nokia Lumia 2520 is currently exclusively through retailer John Lewis.

Nokia Android phone codenamed Normandy due 2014

New information has emerged surrounding Nokia’s heavily rumoured Android smartphone, suggesting production is steaming ahead.

According to multiple sources “familiar with the company’s plans”, Nokia’s Android phone is codenamed Normandy, but is known internally under several different monikers.

The Android handset will be the next step in Nokia’s low-end smartphone line with access to a wider range of apps.

Similar to the Amazon Kindle Fire OS, Nokia will seemingly develop its own special “forked” version of Android not directly aligned with Google’s own OS.

An image of the Android Nokia phone was released by notorious tech tipster @evleaks in December, showing a Lumia-styled device with no capacitive navigation buttons.

The Verge’s sources say Nokia Normandy is an Android Asha equivalent with access to more traditional apps that aren’t available on Windows Phone. This is something the company has struggled with for the Asha line and it already supports apps like Skype.

Nokia employees have been told the Normandy will be released next year, with one insider said the production is “full steam ahead”.

The sale of Nokia to Microsoft is currently underway and it would seem bizarre for Microsoft to allow Nokia to use Android for low-end handsets over its own Windows Phone OS.

Nokia may just get away with an Android release if it can get the device out before the Microsoft takeover is complete.

Microsoft may well scrap the Normandy effort if Nokia is too late to release it.

We currently have no information on any specs for the Normandy phone, but don’t expect it to be rivalling any flagship handsets.

Nokia Lumia 1520V mini pictures appear ahead of potential April release date

Images of the purported Nokia Lumia 1520V mini have appeared online with a suggested April release date.

Earlier this month, information about a mini version of the Nokia Lumia 1520 emerged online, which has now been backed by some leaked images.

The images appeared on some Chinese websites, showing the 1520V next to an iPhone 4S and the full-sized Lumia 1520.

Nokia unveiled the Lumia 1520 in December as the manufacturer’s first large-screen, full 1080p HD Windows 8 smartphone.

In comparison to the Lumia 1520’s 6-inch display, the 1520V was tipped to have a 4.3-inch 1080 x 1920p full HD screen. However, the latest rumours suggest the actual retail edition will have a 4.45-inch 768 x 1280p HD display.

It will supposedly be powered by a 2370mAh battery, but that’s all we know for now.

The Chinese sources suggest the Nokia Lumia 1520V will be released in April, rather than a dedicated technology show like MWC 2014.

Nokia Lumia 1520 Features
Along with the 6-inch full HD display, the 1520 features a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM.

The 1520 also has a 20-megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilisation and dual LED flash. This rear camera is capable of full 1080p HD video recording at 30fps and is paired with a 1.2-megapixel front camera.

Coming equipped with a microSD card slot with 64GB support, the 1520 comes with 32GB of internal storage and users also get access to 7GB of OneDrive cloud storage.

It is powered by a 3,400mAh battery and runs Windows Phone 8. It is also eligible for the Lumia Black update, which offers features like notifications and camera tweaks.

Nokia Lumia 1020 press pictures leak ahead of 41MP camera phone unveiling

Claimed Nokia Lumia 1020 pictures have hit the web, with the reported press shots of the upcoming 41-megapixel camera phone leaking via Twitter.

Widely expected to be announced during Nokia’s New York based launch event next week, the Nokia Lumia 1020, a handset which has also done the rounds with EOS branding, is set to be the first phone to bring the Finnish manufacturer’s 41-Megapixel PureView snapper to its flagship Windows Phone line.

Making a premature appearance courtesy of repeated tech tipster @evleaks, the latest Nokia Lumia 1020 images have emerged exactly one week before the manufacturer’s July 11 unveiling.

Following on from the recently launched Nokia Lumia 925, latest Nokia Lumia 1020 rumours have suggested that the Windows Phone 8 powered handset will land as a challenger to the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, a 16-megapixel camera hosting spinoff to the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a 10x optical zoom.

While the newly leaked Nokia Lumia 1020 pictures show a handset remarkably similar to Nokia’s past Lumia offerings, the images have failed to offer a glimpse at the phone’s rear. Past leaked images have pointed to the device sporting a bulbous rear to support the low-light specialist camera.

Offering little details on the phone, the Twitter based leak came with the simple message: “Nokia Lumia 1020 for AT&T, 2013.”

Last month the @evleaks was the first to point to the upcoming Nokia handset becoming the company’s first phone to break through the three digit naming convention. A Tweet from the serial tipster stated: “EOS = Lumia 1020.”

Although Nokia has yet to formally confirm the Nokia Lumia 1020 release, the manufacturer has repeatedly teased the device, recent stating there are “41 million reasons” to tune into next week’s unveiling, a tip that all but confirms the phone’s PureView camera inclusion.
